Well there's something about driving thirteen hours straight that will make you want to stop and grab a hotel. At about 1am on Thursday night we decided that traveling all night would be exhausting and we'd arrive much too early. We grabbed a night at the Day's Inn. Of course there's no transporting sleeping girls from the van to the room so they both woke up and were pretty excited to be stopping. Olivia gets in the room and says "Look! They have a TV!" The girl who just watched 13 hours of movies in the back seat of the van is now ecstatic about a TV at 1 in the morning.
After having survived that short and sweet sleep, we made our way to the front desk to grab some breakfast because on the 25th of December, noooothing is open except the Waffle House and Denny's. Since Waffle House is the size of a matchbox that allows its patrons to smoke while they eat we weren't too keen on going there. Denny's is just gross on Christmas day. Believe me. So we had continental breakfast at the Day's Inn and it was quite good.
We did the rest of the trip yesterday and have now arrived at yet another Day's Inn for what will be one more night now. We're about 10 minutes from where we're supposed to sign in on Sunday. We did hit a torrential downpour in South Caroline but nothing Helena couldn't handle. It's now a sunny morning in Daytona running about 22 degrees.
We're all up now and we're thinking to make up some serious lack of eating by heading over to the local Cracker Barrel. One of my new favorite restaurants. One thing I do have to do today is convince Olivia that we have arrived in Florida. She keeps asking when we're going to get there. Girl, this lousy hotel room is it! Why do you think mom and dad were so excited to get here?
Hey, congrats on your arrival! And check out your email for your very first Florida Vacation photo.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys made good time. Well enjoy your sunny day. We're having a dark day and basking in rain, freezing rain, snow, whatever. Nice photo.

I've been in a Waffle House. Now I know what it was like to eat in a restaurant in the 60's.
